I have a lot of favorite shows, but in my defense I watch almost everything that is on TV except for procedural dramas and Reality TV shows. So with the new 2006-2007 TV season kicking off I thought now would be the perfect time to pimp out some awesome shows you’ve probably never watched before.

How I Met Your Mother

CBS Mondays at 9p.m.
There is no other show on TV that is as AWESOME as HIMYM. No seriously, one of the main characters even suggested last season that he and his new wife should change their last names to “Awesome” and then name their kids “Fricking” and “Totally.”

HIMYM has definitely become the successor to “Friends.” It has quirky fast paced humor but manages to keep an ongoing continuity that most sitcoms fail to do. When it comes to comedies the only other show that is on par or funnier is “The Office” so you really can’t go wrong by giving this show a chance. Besides… didn’t it irk you all last year when people made “Legend-Dairy,” “Awesome,” “Slap Bets,” or “pop-candian-teen-star” jokes and you didn’t get it? (p.s. Yes that’s Mandy Moore in the Pic above. She’s in Monday’s season premier).

Friday Night Lights

NBC Fridays at 9p.m.
I hate watching sports. They bore me. So I was really reluctant to try out “Friday Night Lights” and I was already prone to hate it, but man was I surprised when I realized just how good the show is. The show is based off the book (like the movie was based off the book) and basically spends the first season telling the same story that the movie did. The only real difference is that in 22 episodes you get to watch the characters grow and you actually end up caring about them. Not only is this show the best teen-drama on TV but the writing and acting are superb and just about every TV critic has complained that FNL really got snubbed by not being nominated for an Emmy.

Another excellent reason to give this show a chance is that the first season is on sale at most places for only $19.99 and NBC is offering a full-refund if you are dissatisfied with it! Full episodes can also be found on the NBC website and on You Tube (legally) for free. So you really have no excuse for not trying it.

Brothers & Sisters

ABC Sundays at 10p.m.
The first few episodes of the first season weren’t that addictive, but as soon as the new executive producer took over, the show started channeling “Everwood”-like goodness. What’s fun about watching this dysfunctional family is that drama and humor are always tied together. It’s not melodrama-whinny-ness that you might see on “One Tree Hill” or “Desperate Housewives.” Instead the drama is quick based like “Gilmore Girls” and always followed with a punch line. Then the mid-season additions of Rob Lowe and Emily VanCamp make this show one you just can’t pass up.

yep, I’m not watching any of those. Occasionally I’ll catch part of an ep of HIMYM and I’ve heard great things about FNL, but I’ve not watched it.
