Concussion & Pneumonia

Filed under: Me — Scott King at 6:37 pm on Friday, November 30, 2007

Went to the doctors today before class and found out why I’ve not been feeling good… turns out I have a concussion and pneumonia (Oh and I also have my normal sinus infection but I’m used to those). I have no freaking idea where I got the concussion. I was shocked when the doctor told me I had one!

Edit the Super-Jumper

It’s Friday and I’m on campus so here is your weekly dose of Edit. Because of her super jumping abilities, she figured out how to jump ontop of my bookshelves. She likes to go up there when I’m writing and is always peeking down at me (as you can see in the second pic).

Race & Ethnicity in Screenplays

Filed under: Me — Scott King at 8:29 am on Friday, November 30, 2007

We had a conversation in my screenwriting class about adding race and ethnicity into scripts. I didn’t really participate because American University is a very “Socially Aware” school and I didn’t feel like arguing with people. However I did doodle the above-cartoon!

Halo Thursday

It’s Thursday and I’m on campus, so here is your weekly “Halo 3″ pic! This one was taken on the single player campaign, level 3 I think. Don’t ask me what exactly that is in the background because I never played the original Halo and Bungie never bothered to explain the plot/story in the second and third version.

My 10 Favorite Christmas Specials & Movies

This list makes up my favorite Christmas specials/movies. These aren’t necessarily the “best” but are the ones that I personally have to watch every year for it to feel like Christmas time: (Read on …)

Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

Filed under: Movies — Scott King at 8:58 am on Thursday, November 29, 2007

I’ve never been a fan of the “I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus, underneath the mistletoe last night…” song. It just bothers me that someone’s Mom would make out with Santa, knowing he’s married. They lyrics of the classic song even describe how Mommy sits on Santa’s lap and tickles him behind his beard!

But last night a close friend told me “it’s not an affair, it’s the Dad dressed as Santa.” I can see where my friend is coming from… thinking it’s the father in a costume, but I guess I’m just a true-believer when it comes to Christmas and if the lyrics say its Santa then I believe it’s the real Santa. What’s your take on it?

Billie Piper Returns to “Doctor Who”

Filed under: Doctor Who, TV — Scott King at 8:57 am on Thursday, November 29, 2007

I know many “Doctor Who” fans hated Billie Piper, but Rose was the main reason I started watching the show. So I’m super happy to share the news that she will be returning for a three episode arc during the upcoming fourth season. No real details are known about the arc other than that it happens at the end of the season.

“Watchmen” Movie Set Pics

“Watchmen” director Zach Snyder shares the first stills of sets as well as some weird facts.

Here are a few interesting facts about the backlot:
• 5,800 feet of neon requiring 24,000 watts of power
• 100 unique and custom-designed graphics created for the various storefronts
• 5,000 square feet of custom posters (Read on …)

My first Eskimo Dave!

Filed under: My Projects — Scott King at 10:53 am on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

It’s about freaking time. My first “Eskimo Dave” comic is online. The strip runs weekly and my first arc lasts three episodes. Another writer then steps in for a five issue run and then I’ll have 17 episodes back to back. That’s right… SEVENTEEN! So if you haven’t been reading the webcomic now is the perfect time to jump on board.

Name the Film

I have a professor offering extra credit points. All you have to do is name every movie that appears in the pic above (click it to enlarge). Although there are lots of movies there, its kinda weird how you can recognize a movie, even some of the really old ones, from just a single frame.

Artichokes

This is an artichoke. I mentioned one in a screenplay and a classmate didn’t know what it was. The basic gist is that you boil or steam them and then eat its heart, but let me see if I can get Sarah to do a post explaining nutritional stuff or some recipes.

“Chuck” is Picked Up

Filed under: Chuck, TV — Scott King at 9:16 am on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

“Chuck” one of my favorite new shows was picked up for a full season! Man its sooooo funny. It’s that classic geek-humor that used to be in the light hearted episodes of “The O.C.” but with a an action/”Alias” setting. If you haven’t been watching it then use the strike as a reason to get caught up on the re-runs.

Battlestar Galactica: Razor

Filed under: BattlestarGalactica, TV — Scott King at 9:15 am on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

Did anyone see this? It premiered last week. I DVR-ed it and when I tried to watch it I was bored within five minutes. There was too much knife flipping and I just didn’t feel like investing in new characters or characters I didn’t care about. I wanted it to focus on the normal cast and not the Pegasus.

I mean don’t get me wrong, I’ll definitely watch it at some point. It just felt too “heavy” and didn’t get my attention right away so now I’m putting it off till later. But for those of you who did see it, how was it? Should I make it more of a priority to watch it or what?

“Alien” & “Aliens” Impressions

Filed under: Movies — Scott King at 9:07 pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Being really sick means I have tons of down time. The bad news is I’m too dizzy to play “Halo” or other video games, but I can get caught up on the stack of DVDs I have to watch, which is why I spent some time today with “Alien” and “Aliens” (something Jim Smash convinced me to do).

My first impression of both films is that even though they are 25-30 years old, they still hold up. The characters, the plot, the dialog, the pacing… it all still works. In fact, for the most part, even the special effects were effective. There were only two scenes in the first film where I thought “oh soooo a guy in a suite” and there was only one scene in the seconded where I thought “oh that’s sooo a model.” (Read on …)

Weird “Aliens”

I was trying to find a decent “Alien” picture and I stumped across the two pics above. The first is Mickey-Alien and the second is Vegetable-Alien.
