“Messiah Complex” Steals from “Ult. X-Men”

Let me preface this post by saying that I didn’t read Messiah Complex. I’m a trade guy and will read it once it’s been collected. However, the internet is the internet and even if you aren’t looking for spoilers you stumble across them. So before I continue, this is your spoiler warning…

So “Messiah Complex” ends with Xavier dying or “presumed dead” and then Scott Summers (Cyclops) disbanding the X-men. Since I’ve not read it, I’m not about to judge the book for its storytelling abilities. However, what I find really weird is that this is exactly the same thing that Robert Kirkman did in a recent arc of “Ultimate X-men.”

In “Ultimate X-men” Xavier is presumed dead so Cyclops takes over the “X-men” and the first thing he does is disband them!

Do the editorial offices at Marvel not communicate with each other? Mike Carey is the supposed mastermind behind “Messiah Complex” and he writes a book set in the Ultimate Universe. How did he not know that this was already being done? Are writers having such a hard time thinking of x-men ideas that they are now stealing “616” stories from the “ultimate” universe?

Actually, I’d say they were stealing from their own “616″ as this was not the first time Xavier has “died”, Cyclops assumes command, and the X-Men are disbanded. It happens about once every 10-15 years.

I still enjoyed MC alot! While not perfect by any means, its the best the X-Men have been in 15+years.

Oh, and Ultimate X-Men is poop.
:P

I checked Marvel’s x-men history page:
http://www.marvel.com/universe/X-Men

I checked wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men

Then I just kept googling for a good 20 minutes. The only time I could find that they officially disbanded was back in the day when some guy named “Duncan” was in charge.

It’s not just about the disbanding though. It all revolves around the baby and the potential loss of the X gene.

I said I wasn’t commenting about the actual plot of “Messiah Complex” because I haven’t read it yet. But no matter how they got to the end of the story… the story still ends with the Xavier dead, Scott in charge, and Scott disbanding the X-men. Exactly what has been going on in with the “Ultimate X-men.”

I accidentally spammed a comment of yours and Lisa’s last week because I had a spambot post 100 comments in under five minutes. So the “system” now thinks you and lisa are also spam so it keeps asking me to approve your comments. I’m trying to figure out how to make you permanently approved.
