Dreamhost is migrating my site to a different server… so sorry about all the 500 Internal Server Errors. They say everything should be fine in a few days.

Evil Fog

On my way to D.C. and the fog is like something out of a bad fantasy novel. I’m on the Bay Bridge (a 4 mile bridge that spans the Chesapeake Bay) and I can’t even see the fricking bridge!

“24″ Reminder

Heading out of town again for the weekend, so just wanted to offer a quick reminder about the “24″ tele-movie airing Sunday. It’s titled “Redemption” and hopefully it will give us a hint that the upcoming season isn’t as painfully horrible as the last one (which was like two years ago).

Consoles Eat Power

This is why gamers could never be green… game consoles use as much energy as San Diego does!

Today, more than 40 percent of all homes in the United States contain at least one video game console. Recognizing that all that gaming could add up to serious demand for electricity, NRDC and Ecos Consulting performed the first ever comprehensive study on the energy use of video game consoles and found that they consumed an estimated 16 billion kilowatt-hours per year — roughly equal to the annual electricity use of the city of San Diego.

Sony Blocks Netflix with Xbox

Filed under: Movies — Scott King at 10:05 am on Thursday, November 20, 2008

As of yesterday, people can now stream a collection of Netflix movies on their Xbox 360. This is the same service netflix users have on their computers, only instead of watching movies on a monitor they can now watch them on a TV. However, after having trouble watching certain flicks I discovered that Sony has blocked movies they own from being watched on an Xbox. The following statment was released:

In the case of Xbox 360, a few hundred titles are temporarily unavailable to be streamed via the Xbox game console. Those titles are still available to be watched on subscribers’ computers and on TVs via other partner devices, and we hope they’ll be licensed for Xbox 360 shortly.

Lots of SPAM for Everyone

Filed under: News News — Scott King at 9:57 am on Thursday, November 20, 2008

The economy is so bad that the makers of SPAM have ramped production to 24 hours a day 7 days a week in preperation for people buying more (since they can’t afford real meat).

Through war and recession, Americans have turned to the glistening canned product from Hormel as a way to save money while still putting something that resembles meat on the table. Now, in a sign of the times, it is happening again, and Hormel is cranking out as much Spam as its workers can produce.

Indiana Jones 5: The Curse of the Golden Catheter

Filed under: Movies, TV — Scott King at 4:52 pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2008

I just finished watching Monday’s “Big Bang Theory” and starting laughing hysterically because after the credits the screen went white and the following message was posted:

Dear George Lucas,

May I call you Mr. Lucas? On behalf of the writers of The Big Bang Theory, I would like to thank you for your astounding body of work, which has awakened the child within us and unleashed our dreams. That being said, we hope you don’t take offense at our good-natured jest regarding your most recent animated efforts. Yes they were cheap shots, but we can’t help but hold you to a higher standard — a standard of your own making. In closing, we are all looking forward to Indiana Jones 5 – The Curse of the Golden Catheter. Oops, sorry again.

Very truly yours,
The Writers

Bechdel and Pekar

Maybe my dislike of Alison Bechdel is making me biased, but I really don’t get the above strip she did about Harvey Pekar. You can read it here.

“He-Man” to be Directed by “Kung Fu Panda” Director?

Filed under: Movies, TV — Scott King at 11:36 am on Wednesday, November 19, 2008

The rumor on the internet is that the once dead live action “He-Man” movie is not that dead after all:

According to my sources, one of my favorite projects got itself a director.  Supposedly, Kung Fu Panda director John Stevenson went in to the Silver offices, came in and did this killer take on He-man and the Masters of the Universe and got himself the job!

“Beauty and the Beast” in 3D

Filed under: Movies — Scott King at 11:33 am on Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Disney is converting the academy award nominated “Beauty and the Beast” into pure 3D. By “pure” I mean that they are going back to the original cell drawinings and using 3D technology on them instead of just applying 3D affects in post. This is neat, it’s just weird because “Beauty and the Beast” isn’t computer animated, it’s classic 2D animation.

“By going back to the original animation files, which have been carefully archived for 17 years, and using the separate background, effects and character animation elements, we’re able to come up with a fun and unique 3-D experience for existing and new fans of the film,” Hahn said.

If you are like me and completely forgot to DVR “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II” then you can check it out here online. It was ok. If you’re a fan or even semi-fan then you can’t not watch it.

Everyone’s Talking “Star Trek”

Filed under: Movies — Scott King at 11:56 am on Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Since no one else is saying it… I will. I wasn’t impressed with the new “Star Trek” trailer. I’m not a fanboy or a loyalist to canon so I have no problem with the re-vamp. My issue is that the trailer felt too summer blockbuster movie-ish. Instead of a cut with lots of flashes and explotions I would have liked to have seen a trailer with a tad more hints to the characters and premise of the movie.
