Captain Malcolm Reynolds on “Castle”

Captainmal
For the Halloween episode of “Castle,” Nathan Fillion dressed up as “Firefly’s” Captain Mal. Then he went to a graveyard and made a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reference. AWESOME!

“Dollhouse” Season 2 Episode: Belonging

iuuu
So there is really no hope for “Dollhouse” getting a third season, but last Friday’s episode was by far the best episode that’s aired on Fox (the best being the DVD exclusive “Epitaph One”).

Why was it so good? Sure there was some mythos and some backstory, but it was the character conflict that was AWESOME. Topher having a moral dilemma brought a whole new side to the character, but seeing the emotional arc of Sierra is what made the episode. I wish EVER episode was as well written as “Belonging” was.

“Battlestar Galactica: The Plan” Review

“The Plan” tries to tell the cylon’s story from the recent reboot, but unilaterally fails. The main reason it sucks? Because there was no plan! The Cylons should’ve been portrayed as master strategist on level with Ben Linus, but instead this movie shows them floundering around like idiots.

If the lack of a plot wasn’t a deal breaker story telling is. The movie is clearly written only for the most hardcore of fans. It jumps all over the place and constantly references old sub-plots that never really mattered. Even more frustrating is that half of the movie is re-used footage so you’re barely getting anything new out of it.

It’s a shame because after the lackluster ending of the series, “The Plan” could’ve really redeemed the show, but instead it leaves more questions than answers and the things it does answer are meaningless.

The Problem With “Ugly Betty”

They can take the braces off and giver her a wardrobe makeover, but the  problem with “Ugly Betty” is the humor. Take this week’s episode for example. At a staff meeting, there aren’t any extra chairs so Betty decides to sit in a bean-bag chair.

This of course led her into flipping backward and sharing her underoos with the world. If this were the first season of “Ugly Betty” I’d get the joke, but really, at this point the character should’ve known better! It would’ve taken her all of ten seconds to walk into the other room and get a chair.

“Gossip Girl” Event Fatigued

Event Fatigued is normally applied to mega-crossovers at comic book companies, but I feel the term applies perfectly to “Gossip Girl.” Every episode of the season has had some sort of event where the main cast bump into each other. This past week was a Parent’s Toast, the week before was a wedding, then a movie premier, then an auction… it’s getting seriously old. The writers need to realize that they don’t need some MacGuffin just to bring the cast together.

That being said, I’m LOVING this season compared to last year. Specifically, I’m enjoying less Jenny and more Vanessa. Plus the new cast members, like the very hot Joanna Garcia mesh nicely with the old timers.

“Greek” Speculation

Lana has to be one of the hottest girls they’ve had on “Greek” and after last week’s episode, I’m thinking she may be sticking around for a bit longer. If my guessing is right, her and Rusty will hook-up (which was more or less already set-up). Where it gets interesting is that the fall break is coming and if I had to bet money I’d say that for a cliff-hanger, Jordan returns and Rusty is stuck having to pick between Lana and Jordan.

“Flash Forward” Is Best When Fast Forwarding

October 23rd, 2009 | by Scott King

I had hopes for the show and even gave the pilot a middle of the road review, but I’m about to give up on it. Nearly 1/3 to 1/2 of the episode is wasted re-telling things we already know. I understand they want to make the plot accessible to the casual viewer, but they don’t need to show the same damn flash forward multiple times in the same episode. It’s at a point where everything feels like filler.

My real issue with the show is the characters. By showing what happens to the characters it’s like knowing a punchline to a joke before hearing the set-up. Because we know where people end up it’s the journey that matters and right now I don’t care jack about any of them.  So Penny from “Lost” leaves “Shakespeare in Love” and hooks-up with the other dude…. so what? Joseph Fiennes character isn’t even likable so how am I supposed to care about his marriage ending?

If the producers want to save the show they need to spend more time on the characters. Instead of being flat archetypes or cliche stereotypes they need to really flesh them out and make them people we can care about because once we care about them, then we’ll start worry about their impending futures.

“Eastwick” is Too Watered Down

Moving past the fact that “Eastwick” is basically a combination of all the bad aspects of “Charmed” and “Desperate Housewives,” my real beef with the show is that it’s too dumbed down. We are how many weeks into the season and not a single one of the main characters realize they are witches? They live in Eastwick. Two of the three acknowledge they have some sort of powers… yet NO ONE has made the connection that they are witches? Seriously, it’s freaking frustrating!

Rankin-Bass’ “Mad Monster Party”

I’m a hardcore Rankin-Bass fan. So I was shocked to discover that they had a movie called “Mad Monster Party” that I had never seen, let alone heard of.

I watched it yesterday and totally 100% loved it! The humor is a mix between one of those classic Scooby-Do celebrity crossovers and just about every other Rankin-Bass special you’ve ever seen. In fact, I’d love to see a live action remake.

“Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition” Review

I picked up “Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition” and ended up seriously frustrated because some of the DLC’s have game breaking bugs that weren’t fixed for the GOTY release.

There are times when loads crash, which cause your saves to corrupt. Then there are times when you randomly fall through floors or get locked in rooms which are impossible to escape. Then there are the normal freezes and glitches that were in the original release of the game.  The DLC’s are beyond buggy and NOT worth the price or time.
