In addition she runs the behind the scenes business side of the very popular webcomic Schlock Mercenary.

Sandra's magical little things book sounds great.
With respect to layout, widows and orphans can often be handled by layout tools, but rivers are something even TeX, essentially the original layout scripting language, is currently unable to handle (https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/29049/how-to-define-the-badness-of-a-river). I'm sure in 5-10 years basically all layout beautification will be computationally solvable, but that's not to say there isn't an art to it 🙂
I HATE formating books for both print and ebook releases. If in 5-10 years it will all be done with a few quick and simple clicks in an app that would make me sooooooo happy!
