Seriously? Like “Fringe” hasn’t already stolen enough from “X-Files,” now they have a rip-off of The Black Oil?! What the hell! I’m seriously considering dropping the show.

Every week is a bad freak-of-the-week episode and if they ever touch on the overall mythos of the series it’s lightly or simply revisiting info we already know. What happened? “Fringe” had sooo much potential.

“Fringe” Airing Out Of Order

Filed under: Fringe, TV — Scott King at 5:35 am on Wednesday, January 13, 2010

If you watched Monday’s episode of “Fringe” and were confused, it’s OK. The episode was a left over from last season that FOX never aired. That’s why Charlie was still alive and that the rest of the episode felt completely out of place with current continuity.

Not really a surprise, but “Fringe” has been picked up by FOX for a second season with a full 22 episodes.

Why is The Observer from “Fringe” showing up on other FOX shows? He apparently was also at a NASCAR race and a Yankees game (in character every time).

As I reported last week, the glyphs that appear during the commercial breaks of “Fringe” actually mean something. Even cooler is that after the break I have an interview with Julian Sanchez , one of the code breakers. (Read on …)

You know how every time “Fringe” goes on a commercial break it shows one of those odd symbols? They apparently have meaning. It’s not really spoilers of any kind, but if you don’t want to know how the codes work, then stop reading. (Read on …)

Five Ways to make Fringe Better

Filed under: Fringe, TV — Scott King at 5:40 am on Monday, September 22, 2008

I watch a lot of TV. As a result, I watch a lot of TV that isn’t good. I still think “Fringe” is finding its voice and thus I wouldn’t yet count it as a bad show or show I don’t enjoy. However here is a list of five simple things that would seriously help improve it’s entertainment value:

  • “Fringe Science” shouldn’t be used as a cover-up for plot holes.
  • Accept that you aren’t “Lost.” Accept that you aren’t “X-files.” Then find your own unique voice.
  • Figure out a way to better balance the humor, the horror, and the action. The most talked about thing from the pilot was people complaining about the “Sponge Bob” scene. It’s not that it was a bad scene, it’s that tonally it didn’t flow right from the scene preceding it.
  • Learn how to be subtle. Yes generally speaking people are stupid. However the people that watch and obsess over shows like “Lost” or “X-files” are anything but stupid. You don’t need to hit the fans over head with blatant clues that anyone with half a brain could figure out. You’re making things too easy for us to the point that we aren’t interested in knowing more.
  • Give Agent Dunham some personality. Right now she’s just a cookie cutter female character that could be on any procedural drama. If you want people to turn in every week then really establish a character that we know and care about.
