“An American King” is a scripted narrative, but best described as “the failed pilot to a reality TV show.” The primary goal behind the piece was to show that something can be silly/entertaining, but still Art (with a capital ‘A’). To really understand the movie, look past the slap stick and humor and see how it comments on current American culture.
